Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths of Aphrodite is a reknown natural spring near Polis. There is a nature walk nearby, and a restaurant which offers a wonderful view of the bay. Stairs from the restaurant-area provide a route (steep) down to the sea.
Personal Experiences of Aphrodite Baths
I have visited Aphrodite Baths on many occasions when vacationing in Cyprus. In my opinion, it is worth visiting for the view from the restaurant alone - but there is much more to see besides!
When you reach the area, you park outside in a carpark. On one side is a restaurant building, on the other side is a tourist kiosk (selling drinks, ice-cream, postcards, and souvenirs) and steep path leading to the Bath of Aphrodite.
The path to Bath to Aphrodite is quite a steep climb, but it has been improved over the years, and there is a pretty good pathway up the hill now. We managed to get a pushchair up it in October 2012 without too much trouble. The Bath itself is a spring in a rocky cleft, surrounded by greenery. There is a water fountain if you want to collect a little water - but please note that the water is not suitable for drinking.
The walk back from the Bath follows a slightly different route, but is also steep. It is at this point, you have an option of going on a nature walk. Even if you don't follow the nature walk, you are still quite likely to see some goats and donkeys.
The restaurant serves typically Greek Cypriot cuisine, with particularly impressive grilled prawns. There are both outdoor and indoor seating areas, and the outdoor areas offer a spectacular view of the sea. You may find that there are quite a few cats wondering around (we saw many on previous visits, but did not see any on our most recent visit in October 2012).
At one corner of the restaurant are some steps leading down. If you follow them, they go to some showers (basic but usable) and changing rooms, that are beneath the restaurant. Obviously this is where you can get changed before going to the beach. From there a very-steep and fairly-long flight of steps that leads down to the beach.
The beach itself is pebbled and to be honest, not that great. There is a lot of seaweed near the shore, which tends to get inside your swimming costume (so the showers in the changing area are very helpful!), and there are sometimes broken sunbeds etc., on the beach.
The sea however, unless the weather is bad, is calm, cool, and wonderful to swim in (there are no lifeguards around - so do take that into account). If you like swimming in the sea, I would say this is one of the nicest places that I have found to swim in Cyprus.
